The process of the commission

My work is strictly by commission, meaning that it is all custom and designed for your particular application. It is not just taking a previous design and changing the size to fit another opening. Each commission is an original work of art.

Typically, it all starts with a phone call inquiring about a price quote for a certain window size. If you have already viewed the galleries in my website, you can see that there is quite a variety of work. The works reflect various price ranges. Some things that are considered in the price are the size of the window, the design, (simple, straight forward beveled window or a more complicated window with many small pieces and/or glass painting). The more complex the window means that there is more labor, therefore, more expense. Another thing to consider is the installation. It is as important to the integrity of the job as the making of the window. I take pride in the fact I know my windows are installed properly because I install them myself.

When you call and talk to me, I can give you a range of prices using the above criteria. If that fits into your budget I will come out to your home or job site to give a more personal look. At this time I will listen to your ideas and begin to formulate an image of what the window could look like by seeing the architectural setting. At this point if we have a meeting of the minds, I'll collect a design fee and set forth to get our ideas down on paper. Depending on my work load, I typically get back to you in about a week and show you the design. I invite the client to my studio for design approval, at which time I will show the type of glass that will be used in the work. Upon design approval we sign a contract and I'll give you the estimated turnaround time. For simpler jobs, the next time we see each other is when I install. On the more complicated jobs I invite you back to the studio to see the work in progress. Because I'm a good listener, I've found there are very few changes; however, if a particular color needs adjusting this is an opportunity to do that.

The turnaround time from the design stage through installation runs about 45-90 days depending on workload at time of contract. It's difficult to set an exact date before starting fabrication considering the nature of doing custom work and coordinating our efforts in working together. But our studio has a high success rate of meeting our timeframes. Forty percent of all our work is for repeat clients!
